Join the IOP@FSU for a public talk with Dr. John Holbein of the University of Virginia on young voters and political participation. In 2016, 90% of young Americans reported interest in politics. 80% intended to vote. Yet only 43% of people between the ages of 18 and 29 ended up actually casting a ballot. In this discussion, Dr. Holbein will discuss his research on young voter turnout and highlight how policies such as civic education and electoral reform present possible solutions to low political participation among young adults.
Dr. Holbein is an Assistant Professor of Public Policy and Education at the University of Virginia. He studies political participation, political inequality, democratic accountability, political representation, and education policy.
